SPOKANE, Wash. -- TDS Fiber, part of TDS Telecom, said Tuesday it was actively ramping up construction for high-speed internet in Spokane and Spokane Valley.

A viewer contacted KXLY, wondering why it seemed that work to install the fiber optic cables has stopped since TDS announced an expansion into Spokane Valley in 2021. At the time, TDS boasted a full-fiber network in Spokane across six neighborhoods, delivering internet speeds up to 1 Gig in addition to digital TV service and phone options.

KXLY contacted TDS for an update on the expansion plan for Spokane Valley Tuesday. TDS said it was in the process of hiring over 80 workers to help build the fiber internet network in the area, which included new construction and engineering partners.

TDS said its fiber service is carried in more than 10,000 homes and businesses in the Spokane area. The company did not provide a timeline for progress in Spokane Valley Tuesday.
