GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- TJ Maxx is among five tenants slated to open at Village at Knapp's Crossing in 2018 and 2019.

TJ Maxx's new 22,000-square-foot store will be built next D&W Fresh Market, and is slated to open in summer 2019, said Chris Brochert, of Lormax Stern Development Co.

The retail chain sells brand name clothing, home decor, assessories and toys at a discount.

The Bloomfield Hills developer has also signed leases with four new business scheduled to open in summer 2018.

They are Orangetheory Fitness, Neurocore, Chowhound pet store and Woodhouse spa.

The five storefronts are part of the development's second phase that will grow it by 100,000 square feet. A final, third phase will add 50,000 square feet of development at Knapp's Crossings' north end.

Brochert says he hasn't had any difficult finding tenants for the once-struggling development at Knapp Street and East Beltline Avenue NE since his firm was brought in as a partner in 2014.

During the first phase, Knapp's Corner added Bagger Dave's, Bravo Cucina Italiana, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, Pieology, PNC Bank, Potbelly Sandwich Works and Rx Optical.

Over the decades, Brochert's firm has been involved in scores of high-profile projects across Michigan.

Lormax Stern demalled the former Centerpointe Mall, now known as Shops at CenterPoint, before selling the Grand Rapids shopping center for $68 million in 2014.

Now, the firm is partnering on a new $60 million residential and commercial development going up in Detroit that will feature Meijer's second small-format store.

For Knapp's Crossing, Brochert's firm has courted tenants that will add to the corridor's commercial mix.

The East Beltine corridor is known for high daytime traffic from people who work or shop in the area.

But the residents is expected to go up with the construction of two major apartment complexes: the 248-unit Springs at Knapp's Crossing and the 203-unit Knapp Corner Flats.
